It was bound to happen. Somewhere between airline companies cutting flights and crowding up planes and lowering ticket prices to lure travelers on long weekends overseas — the party was going to end.
Now, according to American Express, things are about to stabilize. Travelocity.com also agrees, announcing that prices will likely not get much lower. The good news: Prices are still lower than they were a year ago, the bad news, they are not going to get any lower.
While much of the airline industry has suffered from a drop in business travel, the stabilization of prices mean that a savvy traveler needs to be even more so.
Here are our tips:
1. Book early and often. There are excellent deals coming out every day for trips way in advance. For example, now is the time to book a trip to some tropical island in February or March. If you wait until Christmas, those killer deals will be gone.
2. If you need some spontaneous travel — road trip it. You can still get some good deals at hotels and currently gas is cheap.
3. Quit talking and start flying: Travel experts say that over the next year, many plane ticket prices are going to start going up. That’s the down side of stabilization: It means it’s not going any lower.
