Balloon festival takes left turn at Albuquerque

Don’t ever let someone tell you that there’s nothing to do Albuquerque — the only U.S. city with three U’s in its-1 name.

The 38th Annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is underway and will run until Oct. 11th.

The photo opportunities alone make the event worth attending. Imagine the facebook updates: “Flying high” and then all of the envious “oooos and ahhhhs” posted in your direction. It’s enough to fill yourself with smug satisfaction.

There will be more than 700 balloons at the event (considered the largest collection hot air since the the Democrat and Republican conventions last year).

Even Mexico has gotten into the festivities, entering the festival with its own balloon. The Minute Men, a civilian group of paramilitary men who don’t really care for open borders, may not care for the Mexican balloon — only because it may inspire more people to stuff themselves into a basket and head north.
