Weekend roundup: Travel news you can use
Shoulder months: The New York Times explains why now is the time to go to Europe. You can read their story here that came out today, or our story from three months ago, back when you could have booked your ticket. Yeah, we’re gloating a little here.
Baggage fees & More: United Airlines started offering a Premium Baggage fee for people who over pack and fly a lot. The Wall Street Journal takes a more in depth look at this program. The Journal also does nice travel round up of other deals and steals in the travel world.
More fees: The San Francisco Chronicle takes a look at that $10 travel fee we’re all going to have to pay on “busy days.” Check out the angry comments that follow the story.
Free Wifi will cost you: The LA Times examines how free Wifi on airplanes will not be entirely be free.
Losing money: Surcharges, fewer flights and full planes still hasn’t helped airlines post big profits for the third quarter of 2009, according to the Associated Press.
Stupid politicians: We hate this idea but the U.S. government is still going through with it. The U.S. House of Representatives passed a law that will charge Europeans $10 to come to the U.S. The idea is to raise money to promote the U.S. overseas and then get more $10 charges. Stupidity at its very best because the unintended consequences of this measure is Americans will soon have to start paying $10 to go to those countries.
