The Hilton Margarita Suites is now under government control, if you want to call Hugo Chavez a government.
The Venezuelan president took over the hotel on Sunday in a move to nationalize it. Basically, Chavez used a presidential decree to say, “It’s mine.”
Chavez did this after the Hilton attempted to charge for rooms and set up a few guidelines after Chavez wanted to book the hotel for a government summit. This, in turn, pissed off Chavez, so instead of quibbling over the bill and having someone tell him he couldn’t run near the pool, Chavez took it over.
Hilton has not said much since losing its second hotel to Chavez. Though it is unlikely to open any new hotels in the area.
