We like Blogger Bob — mostly because, when he’s blogging about the goodness of the
Transportation Security Administration, he’s not serving as a gate keeper between our next getaway.
So, we follow his blog and try to get a little understanding into the TSA mind.
Now, Blogger Bob threw us for a loop today, when we saw that he offered up some tips for people trying to fly without ID.
This can happen, even to the best of us. Once, while checking into a flight at Ft. Lauderdale, I had my wallet stolen. It only took a second and just like that, it was gone.
I even had my ticket already printed, but had my wallet nabbed between dropping off my bag and going through security. Nowadays, that’s even easier to happen, as you can print out your boarding pass at home, grab it the morning of your flight and leave all of your ID (here’s a list of all the acceptable ID for TSA) on the kitchen counter. It’s just that easy.
So what did TSA do? Give me a hard time — and in this case, I deserved it. They don’t know who I am and some how I managed to get my ticket, but didn’t have a single piece of identification. But after a quick series of questions, some sort of run of my name, and thorough search of my bags, I got on my flight to Chicago
The key is to remain calm. Speak slowly and say a lot of “yes sirs.” Frantic reactions or losing your temper never does much good — especially when someone else has the upper hand. In this case, they’re just doing their job.
