The movie madness continues to rise past crazy this week as New Moon, No. 2 in the Twilight series sets a new record for box office proceeds. According to the Associated Press, New Moon grossed more than $70 million on Friday and should hit more than $120 million for the weekend.
It was bound to happen. Create a cult favorite with teen sex appeal and what did anyone expect to happen.
But what about where all of the action takes place. Unlike Gotham — code name for New York City — or all those other fictional places often found in movies, the Vampire hot spot
is little ol’ Forks, Washington. Ain’t that a bite in the neck.
Since the first Twilight movie arrived, tourists have started flocking to Forks, which is tucked up in the north western corner of the most north western state in the continental United States.
According to twilight.inforks.com, there are plenty of places to stay, though it’s unlikely you’re actually going to see many vampires. As the movie becomes more popular, there will be no doubt more bed and breakfasts opening up. For such an out of the way location, the rooms are over priced and you shouldn’t expect stellar service. Call it a hunch.
No self -respecting hipster would ever be caught dead checking out a real city because of its fictional characters. At least you’d never admit to seeing New Moon during the first weekend, but, well, we know you did. You just had to.
