For the traveling friend who has everything, they don’t have this: An atlas so big it comes with its own zip code.
The Earth Atlas is 2 feet high, 18 inches wide and 44 pounds heavy and comes with more pictures than a National Geographic.
This is the kind of book the Library of Congress orders — in fact, it did order one of the 2,000 books printed.
“We keep Earth displayed on a stand with a slanted table so the public can view it. It gets a lot of attention. We turn the pages for the patrons. It gets rave reviews,” said Ed Redmond, librarian for the Library of Congress in a press release about the ginormous book.
Of course, this detailed book, which contains more than 400,000 words doesn’t come cheap. Right now, you can order it from MapLink.com for $4,800 until the end of the year, then it will cost $5,800.
Of course, we have no idea what shipping will be.
Gift rating: Kinda cool.
Good for: People who loves maps more than cars.
Not good for: People who can’t read or use books as coasters.
Value: Unknown.
