East coast turns into winter wonderland

flights_cancel.03Heavy snow has walloped the East Coast with some places getting well over a foot of the white stuff in places that have gone years without snow.

According to the Weather Channel, Boone, NC, was hit with 18 inches of snow and the Big Dump of 2009 will impact 50 million people with heavy snow, power outages and heart attack induced snow shoveling.

More over, we feel awful for anyone south of the Mason Dixion Line on America’s highways and byways — because none of those people know how to drive on the snow.

For those people attempting to get to the East Coast, flights around the country have been canceled or delayed because planes could not leave or could time land. This time, it is weather. HeathrowSnow_P_20090202085035

Reports indicate that airports from North Carolina to DC have had problems and that will likely grow to NY through Saturday. It’s a tough time to be sitting in just about any airport as the frustration factor will continue to grow.

What this means for you:

If you’re scheduled to head to the airport today, you may want to go online and check to see if you’re flight is still on time — as the dominoes fall, planes scheduled to leave East Coast could be spinning their wheels knee deep in slush. Here’s a list of all of the airlines’ phone numbers.
