Eva,

We wanted American buffets. I've actually heard exactly what you've said -- that the Europeans and Canadians have already turned it into a tourist trap with 50s era cars. But from an American perspective, it's not mucked up until we get a chance to mess with it.

Actually, the ban is still on. Cuba has opened up to Americans with family members there, but not for people with no connection to the country. There's been talk that it might and hopefully it does soon.

1. Your title is misleading. Cuba is open to America, American's are free to visit and travel throughout the country without any problem whatsoever.

2. Perhaps you are right about the invasion but just because the U.S. government decides to lift the embargo doesn't mean Cuba becomes an annex of the United States and our corporations. They DO have a sovereign government that's been in power for more than 50 years. The government won't just go away.

3. The photoshop is very funny.

Meh. I don't know about Casio-playing, but there's already no shortage of buffets - the 2 million-plus European and Canadian all-inclusive package tourists that already visit every year gotta eat, you know!

I really hope Americans aren't hugely disappointed when they arrive in Cuba and find out that in a lot of ways it's basically Cancun with Che souvenirs.
