P1010111Three hours may not seem like much time when you consider airlines have had six decades to get some sort of rule in place.

President Obama has ordered the FAA to require airlines to let people off of their plane after its parked on the tarmac for more than three hours. After 270 minutes, the airlines face fines of up to $27,500 per passenger if still parked out on a runway.

Kate Hanni, the president of Flyersrights.org, applauded the new regulations P1010167while airlines say the new rule may lead to more canceled flights and much more crowded airports.

“No more will they be able to strand passengers for over three hours in hot, sweaty, metal tubes,” Kate Hanni told The Detroit News.

No, once those tubes get too sweaty and too hot, the airlines will have to move back to a gate and shoot out its passengers. If the tube remains hot and sweaty for four hours, passengers are encouraged to call a doctor and seek medical help.

After two hours, airlines are required to provide food and water to passengers. And now, the federal government is requiring that toilets work.

Once the flight is canceled, and it will be canceled — if anything to prove the airline industry’s point — passengers will be on their own again.   Good luck and Godspeed.
