Oh, you knew there was a race for these classic photos: The explosive underwear worn by the flaming crotch bomber.

ABC has landed today’s exclusive with pictures of the easy access panties worn by the would-be Nigerian bomber, who blew his chance to scatter plane parts over Detroit.

So what have FBI officials learned from the most famous set of drawers this side of the Atlantic? We’ve seen enough of CSI Miami that we can try to explain — and, of course, we’ll be brief.

First of all, we have no idea how the Nigerian suspect was able to carry any explosives in this particular set of underwear — there’s a giant whole scorched through them. Don’t wear crotchless panties when full load boxers are necessary for the job.

Second, streaking smeared evidence suggests that the bomber may have been scared — which, considering the amount of explosives sitting in his lap, is kind of understandable.

Third, there looks as if there is some sort of pad included in the briefs — which signifies that terrorists are also pussies. But anyone with a mantra that includes death to children fits that description in our book.

Of course, this particular set of underwear aren’t the only time undergarments have made the news. But tighty whities never last long on the front page of any paper — people change.
