Haiti Rocked by Earthquake

Another huge earthquake in 2010 and it’s only January.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 rocked Port-au-Prince Haiti earlier today. The epicenter was centered about 14 miles outside the city and toppled a local hospital, damaged other buildings and destroyed homes of many.

As of now, details are sketchy and the dust hasn’t yet cleared.  News updates and press releases are probably not on the top of officials minds in Haiti at this moment.

Undoubtedly, this does not bode well for the western hemisphere’s most impoverished country, however surfers in neighboring Caribbean islands were hopeful as a tsunami alert was immediately issued. Though the likelihood of a tsunami is small, the alert was immediately issued for the islands in a local proximity to Haiti.
