“Do I hear $2? $2? $3″
The insurance company that covered US Airways flight 1542 — the one piloted by Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger — is going to auction off the remains of the Airbus the world saw bobbing along the Hudson River.
The plane, which has some noted “water damage,” could also use a new clutch and a few other basic parts, such as wings, will be up for sale until March 27, 4:30 p.m. EST.
Chartis Insurance company is selling the plane instead of just scrapping it, no doubt to collect some of the money it lost. (Check out all of the plane bits on the auction site here — note, the site is very slow due to everyone checking it out.) The company
should a thank you note to Sully, if he didn’t heroically land that bird on the only free space in the tri-state area, Chartis would have lost a lot more money.
We’re not sure what use someone might find in a water logged jet covered in goose guts and we can’t wait to hear how much someone pays for it.
History, apparently, does have a price.
