Poor? Hispanic? In college? Get your plane tickets for free

Every college student needs a break when it comes to traveling home.

You’re obligated to head home at certain points throughout the academic year: After all, the ‘rents are picking up the tab for most things — except for those things you’ve put on that freshly minted piece of plastic still burning a hole in your pocket.

Now one group — thanks to the charity of Southwest Airlines and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities — is looking to make sure a few students make it home for free.

The two groups will continue the Giving Flight to Your Success Program, which provides free plane tickets to those in need. Hey, free tickets are free tickets and these are transferable to family members so you can have your parents come and visit your dorm room if you want — which is what every college student wants.

Now HTG encourages anyone and everyone to apply for free stuff and this case, if you have a 2.5 GPA, need a few free plane tickets, and want someone else to play for it, write up an essay and tell Southwest and the HACU why you deserve them them. The deadline to apply is April 30.

At the very best, you’ll free up some money for a few other trips — and at the very worst, you’ll get some laundry done.
