Don’t go to Mardi Gras, become a part of it in this special package

Editor’s Note: This story was incorrect at the time it published. We implied that the winning bidder would get to ride on Harry Connick Jr.’s float — and thus implied you might get to actually meet the Vice Chairman of the Board. In New Orleans, there’s always a chance you might meet HC Jr., but by no means should you think that having the winning bid on Monday will put HC Jr. any where near you. We regret the error and have taken away the skinny jeans of everyone involved.  The story now reads correctly and begins now..

The Daily Getaway program brought to you by the U.S. Travel Associations Discover America and America Express has finally offered up a trip that we are going to bid on, we want this one.

Go to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, ride in Harry Connick Jr.’s parade (yes, he’s that important) and spend five nights in the original Sin City.

Bidding starts at $1600 (that’s $800 per person) and begins at 10 a.m. Monday morning. 12 hours later, someone will have bought a package which, we’ll just run the itinerary straight from the website:

  • Deluxe Mardi Gras accommodations for 2 on the Concierge Level of the Marriott® New Orleans Hotel March 4-9, 2011 (5 nights).
  • Luxury transportation to and from the airport in New Orleans.
  • An Ultimate Mardi Gras Float Experience in Harry Connick Jr.’s Krewe of Orpheus Parade for 2 riders. The Krewe of Orpheus has always mesmerized crowds who jam the streets of New Orleans awaiting its arrival and has consistently stunned revelers on Lundi Gras, the night before Mardi Gras. Since its first ride, Orpheus has been one of the most popular events of the Mardi Gras season. The package includes:
    • 2 memberships in the Krewe of Orpheus for 2011, which includes riding in its elaborate float on Monday, March 7, custom costumes to wear, and beads to throw to your admiring crowd.
    • 2 tickets to the Black Tie Extravaganza Ball that immediately follows the parade, where you will continue your adventure in costume and dance the night away to top-name entertainment.
  • A show for 2 at Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse located in the Royal Sonesta Hotel.
  • An invitation for 2 to a private Mardi Gras party on Bourbon Street Balcony – Mardi Gras Day.
  • VIP passes for 2 to top New Orleans attractions.
  • A show for 2 at The Davenport Lounge in the Ritz Carlton, New Orleans.
  • Dinner for 2 at the famous Arnaud’s Restaurant.

Please note this trip is date-specific, and you must travel March 4-9, 2011. Travel must be booked by December 15.

So bid early and bid often. But we just might take this trip from you. There’s only about 100 stories we could do in the five days. This trip sounds frickin’ awesome.
