Only in America: Midgets and dwarfs set to protest BP

Only BP could sign a check for $20 billion and come out covered in oil.

After meeting with President Obama yesterday, BP Chairman of the Board Carl Henrick Svanberg spoke to the press and inserted his foot in his mouth — fortunately, his leather loafer was covered in oil so it slid in nicely.

While English is not his native tongue (he’s from Switzerland), Svanberg used the unfortunate phrase, “small people” a number of times. This drew immediate fake outrage from midgets, dwarfs and hobbits in the media around the nation who have never heard that different languages may have different phrases that don’t translate very well.

What angers us the most is that now that the media has jumped all over Svanberg for his small people phrasing, HTG has had to speak up for the oil giant that is mucking up some of the best vacation spots in America. We’re disgusted by the spill, and what is the worst environmental disaster to wash up on American soil.

The leak is an atrocity, the phrase “small people,” which apparently was supposed to be small business or Working Joe, is the focus of a shallow, pretentious media that wants to turn a gaff into an insult and get all the “little people” all fired up — most likely because angry midgets are kind of funny.

Focus people. Focus.

You’d think people in the communications business could do a better job of understanding communicating. But alas, that’s just not the case.
