Sure some of the Hilton Hotel properties are a little above some traveler’s budgets — but not everyone ones’. And if you’re in a far away from home, spending the extra cash might be worth it. Hipster doesn’t always mean poor. Sometimes enjoying the finer things in life means spending some money on them.
That’s why we’re mentioning the opening this week of the Hilton The Hauge. First of all, Den Haag, that coastal Dutch City is an absolute fantastic place to visit. There’s all the reefer you can smoke like Amsterdam, but there’s just a different vibe to this city. It’s more Holland than The Netherlands and it’s one of the few cities
t
hat has the word “The” before it. (No one has ever visited Haag.)
In Amsterdam, people think Red Light District and parties. The Hauge is all about war criminals and Queen Beatrix.
As for this particular Hilton,
it’s built on the bones of the 1950 Royal Dutch Telecom Headquarters. It’s 195 bedrooms lay just a
few steps away from the art galleries, shops and cafes that fill The Hauge.
Ever hear of the Girl with the Pearl Earring? No, not the movie starring Scarlett Johansson, we’re talking about the Dutch painting. It served as the inspiration for the slightly silly sounding Grand Cafe Pearl — which is in this Hilton. The painting is about 15 minutes away. Vemeer, the Dutch master who painted it, is dead.
