Every year, Travel + Leisure issues its travel manifesto known as the World’s Best Awards.

This is one of those ranking lists that judges, evaluates and systematically rates nearly everything in the world. The Best Island, the best hotel, the best airline.

Naturally, it’s quite an honor for anyone to make the list. We half expected to find ourselves on there as the Best Travel News Website with the words Hipster Travel Guide in its title — but Travel + Leisure hasn’t created that category just yet.

However, Virgin America was one of the big winners — topping the list for Best Domestic Airline for the third year in a row. Now Virgin hasn’t let that go to its head either. As soon as it heard the good news (for it at least) it announced a three-peat sale, discounting tickets for the growing airline.

“We’re honored to receive the highest marks from Travel + Leisure’s readers for the third year in a row,” said Virgin America President and Chief Executive Officer David Cush in a news release. “There are many surveys that attempt to rank airline quality that are paid or that exclude smaller carriers, but this award confirms that we’re continuing to lead the U.S. industry and hit the mark with savvy consumers.  As we enter our fourth year of operations, the win is a testament to our unique product and the dedication of our entrepreneurial team.”

We are reveling in the irony that none of the major airline carriers such as Delta and American Airlines didn’t even make the Top 10 — our guess is if you have a lot of passengers, you’re going to end up with a lot more people complaining.
