The summer travel season is drawing to an end — and now airlines need to bolster profits for the year with that last quarter.

While fares are bound to jump come Thanksgiving and then ride high all through way through the New Year, that opens up three excellent months to travel: September, October and the beginning of November.

For the savvy traveler, that means booking something now. JetBlue, which can fly you into the Caribbean and even South America, has a ton of round trip tickets for very low prices such as a ticket from Orlando to Bogota for $238.

Not to be outdone, American Airlines has a slew of low priced tickets as well — as long as you’re traveling before November 17 — see, you thought we were making up that travel tip.

American has $49 tickets from LA to Vegas, $169 tickets from San Francisco to Hawaii and loads of other cheap tickets.

Deals aren’t likely to get much better than this for the rest of the year — so if you haven’t gone anywhere yet this year, it’s time to start thinking about where else you can go.

If you’re trend spotting, we’d suggest the Costa Rica trip, as well as the Amalfi Coast Trip — for longer vacations with everything nearly taken care. Both are under $1000 and include almost everything you need.

The site is pretty simple and easy to follow and it does a nice job of offering you

We asked the folks at Travel-Ticker to offer up some of their best Caribbean deals and this is what they came up with: Which, overall, isn’t bad at all.

But don’t take our word for it — and, no, Travel-Ticker is not giving us any money or compensation of any sort to write about them — go over and check out their site for yourself. However, it’s unclear if the best travel deals are the best because Travel-Ticker is getting paid to post them or they are scouring the world to find them.

Reporter Sarah Pascarella took a stab at all of those pay for a discount cards and found out — most of them are not nearly as good of a deal as you might think.

The City Passes Pascarella looked into — in New York, Chicago and San Francisco may have had a big face value savings of up to $58 but does it really do that much for you? Well, first of all — and we could have told you this — you only save that much if you get all of those discounts at every place it offers a discount.

Pascarella was too polite to say “no one wants to spend a long weekend just going to tourist spots in a new city” but the truth is, nobody does.

A trip to Chicago that spends too much time at the Field Museum, the John Hancock Observatory and the Museum of Science and Industry is not a trip worth taking. A little culture is nice, but exhibit after exhibit is pretty boring. You’ll probably save more money during happy hour on Rush Street.

The investigation didn’t end there, though — as she dug into AAA hotel discounts and AARP travel discounts. Both didn’t offer much of a discount over what you can find by other discounts that don’t require you fork out some cash and collect a little plastic car. Then again, if you have a beater of a vehicle, the AAA card might come in handy if it stops running and the AARP includes that nifty monthly publication.

Pascarella looked into a few more discount programs, mostly surmising that, if it sounds too good to be true, well, you know how that goes and while there is some savings, you should always figure out how much you’re going to actually use the program before spending your money to join it.

No one should go broke saving money.

Definitely check out the six-night stay in Costa Rica for $499 — which includes hotel accommodations, an SUV and air fare. Originally, HTG reported that the package did not include a hotel room, but we were wrong. Travelzoo, which monitors the internet almost as well as Der Google, sent us a note and we wanted to correct the error. We regret the mistake and have since sacked all of the people involved with the mistake — it will not happen again.
